How not to stress on your wedding day

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

We have photographed over 100 weddings. We have seen it all, experienced it all, and have now figured out tips to ensure you know how to handle any surprises that come your way! We will give tips for eloping couples and traditional couples down below.

GIVE YOURSELF TIME

Traditional Couples: When it comes to getting ready your hair stylist or make up artist will give you an estimated amount of time they will need. When they give you their time, tack on an additional half and hour as some buffer time, this means before the ceremony you have time to relax and the clock won't be against you. After your ceremony you will want time for photos, we highly recommend giving your photographer 2-3 hours MINIMUM of time after your ceremony to allow them to do family photos, wedding party photos, as well as your formals. When reception finally arrives it's time to party, but at least now you know you gave enough time to get photos of the stuff you're going to want to hang on your walls!

Eloping Couples: y'all are eloping because you want to go with the flow, so schedule the time when you want to be married and then ONLY worry about that specific time. Enjoy your time before and after and plan a time later in the evening to come together with your guests. You didn't plan a traditional wedding, so do not create a timeline like you're having one!

PREPARE YOURSELF TO GET DIRTY - LADIES I'M TALKING TO YOU!

Traditional Couples: You may think you are able to be dirt free on your wedding day since you aren't hiking, but if you are taking photos outside you will be in the elements. Your dress may get wet from the rain, the hall will have spilled alcohol so your dress will turn into a large elegant mop - life happens. Just be prepared to wear the hell out of your dress and have fun doing so.

Eloping Couples: You're hiking. You're chasing waterfalls. You are immersing yourself into Mother Natures's elements. OWN THAT SHIT. Invest in a gown that you love enough to get dirty. You're doing this for the photos after all, so just embrace it, don't worry, and live in the moment!

EMBRACE THE WEATHER

Traditional Couples: You may hope for the perfect day but the weather might disagree. For traditional couples you have some options: either embrace the wind, rain, heat, or cold OR pick some back up locations! For the most part you will be getting married in a city or town that provides alternative locations compared to outdoor parks. Find a greenhouse, an art gallery, a restaurant. Find some locations, ask them about their policies, and have a back-up plan.

Eloping Couples: LET'S OWN IT! Let's work with the wind. Let's work with the rain. Let's take it slow and hope for the weather to break or just have fun being outside. It will be true to your wedding day, true to your elopement, and don't stress about something you can't control.

AND LASTLY - TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

This goes to both couples, so I am not going to differentiate.

Trust your photographer.

You have hired them for a reason. Listen to their prompts and poses, give it your best effort even if you think it might be a little weird. I promise for majority of us there is a method to our madness, and if you are hiring us you want us to do our best work, trust that we have done the work to get to know you, know your wants, and that we will create our magic.

There is so much you can't control on your wedding day.

But what you can do is Adapt. Plan. And Just do your best to enjoy your day.
